Event Details
The kilted bagpipe players, Irish dancers, proud marchers, bright floats, and plenty of symbolic green color—these are the highlights of the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade. The entire Irish community participates in the procession.
In addition to the solemn spectacle, the visitors will be offered other Irish kinds of entertainment, in particular, national food tasting, pony rides, crafts exhibitions, and cultural performances.
Saint Patrick is celebrated on March 17. The Saint is considered to be Irish patron, and the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade tradition was started in America due to the great number of immigrants from Ireland. In San Francisco, there were times when the Irish population made up over a third of the overall number.
Although the Irish are less numerous in the city nowadays, the Parade has thousands of participants and gather numerous spectators.
