Union Square
About Union Square
Union Square is the retail heart of San Francisco. The Sqaure is bounded to the west by Powell Street, with its Cable cars moving up and down Nob Hill and the Fairmont Hotel and to the east by various shops and Maiden Lane running off Stockton Street with its upscale stores; Geary and Post Streets are to the south and north, where at the corner of Geary and Stocken is a large Neiman Marcus. Nearby is Gump's, almost a museum in itself, the Geary and Curran Theaters, long the main legitimate theaters in the city, and Nob Hill. The Square itself is a wonderful place to stop and rest while walking in the vicinity; its central position makes for a perfect place to map out walks further afield, such as Chinatown, Market Street, and, for the hearty, Nob Hill. But then you can always grab a cable car.
